My Robot Friend

My Robot Friend is an electronic music/performance art project from New York led by the enigmatic Howard Robot. His live show is a unique experience, falling somewhere between the manic energy of Devo and the refined performance art of Laurie Anderson. Howard Robot performs in an elaborate, personally-designed light-up suit while interacting with illuminated objects, wireless video cameras, pyrotechnics, and other odd home-made props.

My Robot Friend's 2004 debut 'Hot Action!' spent several months in the CMJ charts and hit the top 20 electronic albums on iTunes sales charts. Songs from 2006 his second album 'Dial 0' have appeared on television (Malcolm in the Middle) and film (Unknown White Male). His upcoming album "Robot High School" is as ground-breaking as it is catchy, garnering advance praise and features from Pitchforkmedia, Stereogum, GBH, and the New York Observer.

Artists such as the Pet Shop Boys and Robbie Williams have covered My Robot Friend's songs. Remixers and collaborators have included artists as diverse as Alison Moyet, Antony, Matmos, Modeselektor, Jeans Team, Dean and Britta, Safety Scissors, Dean Wareham, Derrick Carter, Tommie Sunshine, Outputmessage, and Zombie Nation.

Presentation by Megan Seals

Megan Seals, a 5th Grade Fairfax County, VA public school teacher, serves on the board of directors of the Space Frontier Foundation and for the past five years has served on the SFF's Teachers in Space Team (a privatized space-bound network). Her group, Seals says, aims to pay for teachers from every state in America to experience a brief suborbital space flight and share the experience with everyone they know.

Megan participated in the Zero-G flight over the Washington, D.C. Metro Area on March 14 afetr being nominated by State Senator William C. Wampler, Jr for the experience. The experience offered by Zero-G is the only commercial opportunity on Earth for individuals to experience true "weightlessness" without going to space. This is the identical weightless flight experience used by NASA to train its astronauts.

Retro Future Video Mix

The future that never was filled with fantastic trips to the moon. Dream cars. Jet packs. Inflatable furniture. Flying cars. Mile-high skyscrapers. Underwater cities. Personal rapid transit. Supersonic travel. The cure for the common cold. The promise of immortality. In the new millennium the Retrofuture lives on and it's still being created. The Retrofuture today is the plan on the drawing board: virtual reality, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, stem cell research and things we can't imagine or fathom.

That's RetroFuture. It's in the present. It's in the past. It's still in the future. It's the year 2000. It's the 21st century. It's yesterday and it's tomorrow.

Christopher Ford of Party Mix NYC provides a spacey lounge-tastic soundtrack.

NOVA, live VJ set

NOVA is an experimental filmmaker from Colorado who now lives in Brooklyn. As co-founder of Dawn of Man Productions, NOVA works every day to create intense and thought-provoking media. Whether Psychedelic, abstract, or live-action, all of NOVA's projections are original creations.

Id, live VJ set

Id is the VJ alter-ego of Brooklyn-based visualist and mixed media artist Christian Austin. He studied film at NYU, then led the national advertising teams of The Image Bank and Getty Images to unprecedented film research profits in the late 90's before becoming a full-time drop out from corporate culture.

His VJ sets are philosophically rooted in the Eisensteinian school of montage and expressionist films from the silent era; combining original content with re-contextualized "found footage." Practically, his sets are about whatever it takes to get the party started.

He is co-founder of Z Collective. His live performances and installation pieces have been featured at Flavorpill's One Step Beyond, Warper, Issue Project Room, Ad Hoc Arts, Aljira Contemporary Arts Center, Chelsea Art Museum, Periferias, Anonymous Gallery, Art Tech Media, Flow, Decom NYC, and Love @ Hotel QT.

Inspiration from Yuri's Night past events

Carol Pinchefsky & Allan Piper, Emcees

Emcees Carol Pinchefsky (freelance writer and editor of Space Future.com) and Allan Piper (film and television director and editor, and writer of the upcoming animated film "Alien Band") present an action-packed Space Trivia Survival game in which contestants scramble to land on the right planet for each question before the music stops and leaves them stranded in outer space. Prizes will be given to the last space travelers left alive at the end of the game.

Space Future's focus is opening space to the public, because they consider that, more than anything else, space is a place to go to. Their goal is that tickets to orbit should be as readily available as airline tickets.

New York Jedi

The New York Jedi are a group of costumers, performers, actors & non-actors, and martial artists who have a particular passion for sword fighting...and light sabers. DJ Miko Wanderlust

DJ Miko Wanderlust will be opening the sky and unleashing mana from deep space to rain down on this event. From Burning Man to Morocco, New York to Barcelona... all who bathe in Miko's earthy-psychedelic stylings are reborn into a world of light and fortitude.
